    NADA invites members and delegates of the NADA Conference 2018 to attend this free one-day workshop. 

    This interactive workshop will balance self-reflection with skill development. This includes theoretical, evidence based, and practical content to enable you to enhance your motivational interviewing and counselling skills.

    Participants will be introduced to the latest developments in motivational interviewing research, training and practice. This workshop is very hands-on, with a balance of inform, show, and try. The workshop will include both formative and summative activities on topic areas and multiple role-plays.

    About the Workshop
    By participating in this workshop, attendees will:
    Reflect on how personal values and beliefs affect the counselling relationship
    Comprehend the impacts of reflective and automatic motivations on behaviours
    Understand the importance of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators for client goal achievement 
    Describe the fundamental processes of motivational interviewing
    Enhance skills in client engagement
    Identify where your client is ‘at’, by recognising change talk (DARN CATS)

    About the trainer
    Dr Paula Wye has a diverse range of experiences from clinical practice focusing on dual diagnosis, to organisational and clinical practice change across the health system. Paula is a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle and director of Dragonfly Change Agency, providing behaviour change support and performance evaluation for individuals and organisations.
