Thank you for your interest. Expressions of interest have now closed. We will contact all applicants soon.

You can make change! Increase your skills and confidence on developing persuasive communications around drugs and drug policy that reduces stigma.

Join these two sessions and take part in interactive exercises to learn the Common Cause approach to values based messaging. You will work in groups on a number of communications scenarios designed to help you learn through practical application. The key frameworks and tools participants will develop their skills around are:
  • Schwartz model of human values
  • Common Cause story framework
  • Evidence based tips for drug messaging.
Session one: 19 November (three hours)
First, you will learn the key concepts behind the Common Cause approach to values based messaging. You will then be presented with the Common Cause story framework and work in groups to develop messages in response to a range of communications scenarios using the story framework as your guide. Following this session, you will need to 'meet' with your group for approximately an hour to refine their message ahead of the next session.

Session two: 26 November (three hours)
The final session will begin with a presentation of results from Common Cause Australia’s drug stigma message research conducted in 2020. You will then refine your messages further using a series of quick breakout and feedback sessions. We will conclude the workshop with a review of what participants have learned over the course of the two sessions.
