Supporting people accessing AOD treatment who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness

24 August 2021
12:00pm – 1:30pm
Online Webinar, At your computer,
Everyone deserves a home that is safe, secure, and affordable. In Australia, however, over 116,000 people experience homelessness on any given night (Homelessness Australia 2021). People accessing services for alcohol and other drug use issues and other concerns (e.g. mental health problems) can be more vulnerable to homelessness.

Join NADA for this lunch-break webinar, where we'll introduce key concepts, practical methods for helping people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and how data can provide insight into the best ways to assist your clients.

This webinar will feature Rose Miller (Research and Data Management Officer, NADA), and Sarah Ticehurst (Research and Evaluation Coordinator, Youth off the Street) who will outline the findings of an internal NADA research project Homelessness and access to AOD treatment, which focused on finding ways to support NADA members with the housing needs of their clients. Nicole Yade (Lou's Place) will also cover ways to talk with your clients about their housing and accommodation needs.

A panel discussion will be facilitated by Michelle Ridley (Clinical Program Manager, NADA) with Liz Gal (Consumer Engagement Coordinator, NADA) and Fiona Murray (NAEMI National) who will provide practice advice from her experiences of working in the homelessness sector; and NADA members, Lisa Hopwood (The Buttery), Paul Hardy (Community Restorative Centre) and Sarah Ticehurst (Youth of the Streets).

The panel will discuss:
  • Consumer experience of homelessness and accessing AOD treatment
  • How to ask your clients about their housing status
  • How to use data from the Minimum Dataset to identify patterns in the housing status of your clients
  • Best-practice approaches to helping clients with housing issues
