This one day course outlines the legal journey for children and families in the child protection system. It aims to assist AOD workers engaging with families involved with the child protection system or Children's Court, and build their understanding of legal and DCJ processes. 

Deepen your understanding of child protection system, including: 
the legal process for a family entering the Children's Court system, and  
key elements families need to understand,
joining the dots between the care plan (or the summary of proposed plan) and the family action case plan,
the SDM® Safety and Risk Assessments, Restoration assessment tools, 
key factors in the decision to return children to their families.

Discuss the important role of evidence in the child protection system, as well as:
subpoenas and their influence on recording practices,
how to record evidence of change in circumstances,
what is required of quality case notes, and 
essential standards of documentation.

About the trainer: 
Eleonora De Michele is a passionate practitioner, consultant, and trainer who has been working in the child and family welfare field for the past 41 years. She specialises in all aspects of child protection service delivery, from early intervention and prevention, through to permanency and restoration practices. Her experience includes working in frontline statutory Child Protection work as a Case worker, supervisor, senior manager; overseeing policy development and implementation, and as a Senior Child Protection trainer. For the past 22 years, Eleonora has worked as an independent consultant in all aspects of Child Protection service development, delivery and evaluation. She continues to provide specialist clinical services including expert child protection and out-of-home care case reviews, assessments and opinion testimony in complex child abuse cases.
