Description

Seeking a health promotion professional to join our team on a full-time (35 hours) fixed-term contract. Enthusiasm for working directly with young people by facilitating high quality and research-informed youth health education is essential.

  • Full-time (35 hour p/week) Fixed term contract to June 2025 with potential for extension.
  • Attractive remuneration SCHADS Modern Award Level 3, from $36.00 per hour + superannuation + reimbursement for km travel + TIL system + leave loading.

ROLE

This position will play an active role in the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative and evidence-informed health promotion projects, with a focus on alcohol and other drug prevention. Diverse strategies will include:  

  • facilitation of health education workshops.
  • outreach and community development activities.
  • using research to inform resource production.
  • data collection, collation and analysis.
  • provision of brief advice and referral support.

This position will have a commitment to:

  • The theory and practical application of; health promotion, drug and alcohol prevention and early intervention, community development and youth work.
  • Research methodology and processes (evidence-based practice).
  • Upholding the principles of a Child Safe organisation.
  • Cultural safety and appropriateness.
  • Working with young people from diverse backgrounds, including vulnerable and at-risk groups.
  • The changing needs of the organisation and community, use of technology and innovative practices.

Requirement

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Please note – every day is different in this role and it will require in-person delivery and engagement with participants across various locations within South West Sydney (with a focus on Macarthur and Wingecarribee).

  • Tertiary qualifications in health promotion / public health / health education / social work / related field.
  • Ability to pass probity & health screening checks (Working with Children Check, National Police Check and COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate or a medical contraindication certificate).
  • Holding and maintaining a valid driver’s licence and use of a comprehensively insured vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Essential skills and experience in:

  • Facilitating group education sessions / workshops and presentations.
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion projects.
  • Reviewing literature to inform good practice in delivering services.
  • Producing high quality written communications (including experience with report writing and content for a variety of audiences).
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Administrative processes and record keeping.
  • High level digital literacy.

Desirable criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in alcohol and other drugs and/or mental health.
  • Honours.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
