Description


The Magistrate’s Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) Program aims to break the drug cycle; reducing crime associated with illicit drug and alcohol use. The Coffs Harbour MERIT Program Case Worker operates within a multidisciplinary team environment as part of the Drug & Alcohol Health Services Inc. 

Requirement


Selection Criteria:

Note, if Selection Criteria is not addressed, your application will not be progressed.

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, science, social, education, behavioral sciences or equivalent.

2. Demonstrated understanding of the broad health and social impact of substance misuse and dependence, and commitment to the harm minimisation approach.

3. Demonstrated understanding of and skills in evidence-based interventions for substance misuse and dependence.

4. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with other health, community and welfare professionals. 

5. Possess the ability to communicate effectively with the Local Court and provide confidential quality Court reports including client assessment, progress reports and details of breaches to Police and Courts.

6. Demonstrated high level computer skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Program Suite.

7. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, autonomously and follow direction.

8. Experience working with Aboriginal and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities with strong cultural awareness, empathy and understanding of a wide and diverse community.

9. Understanding of and commitment to Equity, Diversity, Workplace Health and Safety and Quality Improvement.

10. Current Class C driver’s licence.


Desirable:

1. Experience in facilitating groups.

2. Criminal justice system experience applicable to Local Court.

3. Experience working in a variety of health and welfare settings.
