Description


The Magistrate’s Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) Program aims to break the drug cycle; reducing crime associated with illicit drug and alcohol use. The Coffs Harbour MERIT Program Case Worker operates within a multidisciplinary team environment as part of the Drug & Alcohol Health Services Inc.

Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, science, social, education, behavioral sciences or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the broad health and social impact of substance misuse and dependence, and commitment to the harm minimisation approach.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and skills in evidence-based interventions for substance misuse and dependence.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with other health, community and welfare professionals. 
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively with the Local Court and provide confidential quality Court reports including client assessment, progress reports and details of breaches to Police and Courts.
  • Demonstrated high level computer skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Program Suite.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, autonomously and follow direction.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities with strong cultural awareness, empathy and understanding of a wide and diverse community.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Equity, Diversity, Workplace Health and Safety and Quality Improvement.
  • Current Class C driver’s licence.


Desirable:

  • Experience in facilitating groups.
  • Criminal justice system experience applicable to Local Court.
  • Experience working in a variety of health and welfare settings.
