Media release: AOD Awards for the NSW Non Government Sector
Congratulations to the 2018 winners
The Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (NADA), the peak organisation for the non government alcohol and other drugs sector in NSW, would like to congratulate the winners of the third biennial AOD Awards for the NSW Non Government Sector.
The awards were presented as part of the NADA Conference dinner on 8 June 2018 by the NSW Ministry of Health director, alcohol and other drugs branch, Daniel Madeddu and NADA chief executive officer, Larry Pierce.
The awards
Excellence in treatment award
This award recognises excellence and/or innovation in treatment to reduce alcohol and other drugs related harms. This includes the delivery of services, programs and initiatives for individuals or specific populations.
The winner: AOD Transition Project, Community Restorative Centre (CRC) (Broadway, NSW)
Certificate of commendation: Kathleen York House, Australian Drug and Alcohol Foundation (Glebe, NSW)
Excellence in health promotion award
This award recognises excellence and/or innovation in health promotion to reduce alcohol and other drugs related harms. This includes harm reduction, community development and prevention activities.
The winner: ACON Rovers, ACON (Surry Hills, NSW)
Excellence in research and evaluation award
This award recognises individuals or organisations that contributed to building the evidence base for practices to reduce alcohol and other drugs related harms.
The winner: SMART Recovery Research Advisory Committee, SMART Recovery Australia (Haymarket, NSW)
Certificate of commendation: Cognitive Remediation Project, WHOS (Lilyfield, NSW)
First Australians award—improving outcomes for Aboriginal peoples
This award recognises the significant contribution of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individual to improve alcohol and other drugs outcomes for Aboriginal peoples and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The winner: Coral Hennessy, The Glen Centre—Ngaimpe Aboriginal Corporation (Chittaway Bay, NSW)
Outstanding contribution award
This award recognises the significant contribution of an individual working in the non government alcohol and other drugs sector.
The winner: Michele Campbell, Lives Lived Well—Lyndon (Orange, NSW)
Lifetime achievement award
The award recognises the significant contribution of an individual working in the non government alcohol and other drugs sector over a lifetime.
The winner: Shane Brown, Weave Youth & Community Services (Waterloo, NSW)
About the AOD Awards for the NSW Non Government Sector
NSW has a diverse, strong and effective non government alcohol and other drugs sector which has been providing services to individuals, families and communities for more than forty years. The AOD Awards for the NSW Non Government Sector were established in 2014 to acknowledge the significant contribution of the non government alcohol and other drugs sector in reducing alcohol and drug related harms to NSW communities through leadership, program design and delivery, and dedicated workforce.
