About us:
Marrin Weejali provides culturally safe substance misuse and non-acute mental health
counselling, referral and advocacy services to members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of western Sydney. We offer assessment and comprehensive care planning that includes evidence based intervention and therapy to help clients to meet their goals and address underlying issues, while also developing new skills to improve their quality of life. We also reach out into the community through our primary prevention activities to help more of our people live healthy, peaceful and fulfilling lives, and to reduce the likelihood of our people resorting to alcohol and illicit substances or experiencing a mental health condition. Partnerships with other like-minded service providers are central to how we go about supporting our clients’ needs.
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Conducting assessments including risk assessments of clients
- Providing counselling to clients on a one to one basis or in group sessions
- Referring clients to other services as appropriate
- Delivering education & awareness group therapy relating to substance misuse risk factors, relapse prevention, responsible use, and their management
- Delivering education & awareness group therapy relating to social and emotional wellbeing, including but not limited to DBT and domestic family violence
- Working collaboratively with clients to identify their needs, set goals and develop client care plans
- Work in partnership with Community Health staff, hospital staff, GPs and specialists, and with other health and human services agencies and NGOs, to ensure coordinated client care, maintain client liaison, referral and follow up procedure which confirms delivery of client care.
