Description

This unique position incorporates servicing clients of the Magistrate’s Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) Program and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselling. The MERIT Program aims to break the drug cycle; reducing crime associated with illicit drug and alcohol use. AOD Counselling aims to provide one to one assessment, counselling, referral and advocacy to communities of the Upper Hunter and operating within a multidisciplinary team environment as part of the Drug & Alcohol Health Services Inc.

The MERIT Program aims to break the drug cycle; reducing crime associated with illicit drug and alcohol use. AOD Counselling aims to provide one to one assessment, counselling, referral and advocacy to communities of the Upper Hunter and operating within a multidisciplinary team environment as part of the Drug & Alcohol Health Services Inc.


Selection Criteria: Please address ALL criteria points on applications to be eligible

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, science, social, education, behavioral sciences or equivalent in the field of alcohol and other drugs related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary methods of drug and alcohol client service delivery.
  • Demonstrated AOD counselling ability in a professional setting.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide written reports, comprehensive assessments, case management and coordinated care for clients referred to the service for either the MERIT Program or AOD Counselling, including an understanding of harm minimisation.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, attention to detail, works autonomously and follows direction. 6. Demonstrated organisational, excellent time management and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including report writing.
  • Experience working with multicultural, Aboriginal and CALD communities with strong cultural awareness, empathy and understanding of a wide and diverse community.
  • Sound computer knowledge and typing skills.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Equity, Workplace Health and Safety and Quality Improvement.

Desirable:

  • Experience in facilitating groups.
  • Criminal justice system experience applicable to Local Court.
  • Experience working in a variety of health and welfare settings.
  • Willingness to work across services/projects within the organisation.
